The ZasifrovanoXTT2 ransomware is a dangerous file-encrypting malware belonging to the notorious Xorist ransomware family. It was recently identified by cybersecurity researchers analyzing submissions on VirusTotal. This crypto-virus encrypts files and demands a ransom in Bitcoin to unlock them. Once activated, it targets a wide variety of personal and system files, appending a “.zasifrovanoXTT2” extension to each.

For example, “photo.jpg” becomes “photo.jpg.zasifrovanoXTT2”. Along with this, it modifies the desktop wallpaper, creates a ransom note titled “HOW TO DECRYPT FILES.txt”, and displays a threatening pop-up window, both of which demand the victim pay 0.039 BTC (around 76,000 CZK at the time of writing) within three days.

Additional Notes

ZasifrovanoXTT2 uses Czech language in its ransom message, suggesting a regional targeting pattern. However, like many ransomware variants, it may adapt to other regions and languages as it evolves.

Unfortunately, no free decryption tool is currently available for this ransomware. Even if victims pay, there’s no guarantee they will receive the decryption key. In many cases, cybercriminals take the money and disappear. This underscores the importance of maintaining offline backups and avoiding suspicious downloads or email attachments.
