Step 3: Remove LauncherSync from Web Browsers

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome and go to Settings (three dots in the upper right corner).
  2. Select Extensions from the left sidebar.
  3. Remove any suspicious extensions.
  4. Go to Settings again and navigate to Search engine > Manage search engines.
  5. Remove any unwanted search engines and set your preferred one as default.
  6. Reset settings by going to Settings > Advanced > Reset and clean up > Restore settings to their original defaults.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox and go to Add-ons (three horizontal lines in the upper right corner).
  2. Select Extensions and remove any suspicious ones.
  3. Go to Preferences > Home and reset your homepage if it has been changed.
  4. Reset settings by going to Help (three horizontal lines) > Troubleshooting Information > Refresh Firefox.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge and go to Settings (three dots in the upper right corner).
  2. Select Extensions and remove any suspicious ones.
  3. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services and scroll to the bottom to Address bar and search.
  4. Manage search engines and remove any unwanted ones.
  5. Reset settings by going to Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values.

Step 4: Check Task Scheduler for Malicious Tasks

  1. Press Win + R and type taskschd.msc to open Task Scheduler.
  2. Look for any suspicious tasks and delete them.

Step 5: Clean Up Your System Registry

Editing the registry can be risky, so proceed with caution.

  1. Press Win + R and type regedit to open the Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software and look for any suspicious entries related to LauncherSync.
  3. Delete any identified malicious entries.

Step 6: Use Windows Defender to Scan for Malware

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
  3. Click Quick scan and follow up with a Full scan.
