IT Funk - IT for funksjonshemmede

IT Funk is The Norwegian Research Council's RTD-programme on ICT for people with disability.

Universal design and accessibility for all. The purpose of IT Funk is to contribute to accessibility for all, including persons with disability, to information and communication technology (ICT) and to society through the use of ICT. ICT-based products and services developed for the general market must be accessible and useful for everyone at reasonable prices. IT Funk pays special attention to areas where accessibility issues impact on a person's life chances, such as education, employment and basic services to citizens.

2010 Design for All Award for new polling station

Ms. Liv Signe Navarsete, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, received The Design for All Award 2010 in Oslo for a new polling station concept "Blanke Ark". The award was announced at the Design Day March 17. IT Funk is sponsoring this award, which was presented to the Minister by Maja Arnestad, IT Funk-coordinator.

The jury recommends the polling station for its fresh and modern style, which at the same time speaks of a formal and serious occasion. Accessibility is achieved along all dimensions. The voting booth is easy to enter and to use, with information texts easy to read and understand. The interior accommodates the requirements of the diversity of voters, standing or sitting, with tabletops at two levels. The ballot box has an attractive design which also meets the needs of voters with reduced mobility or visually impaired. The polling station was also nominated for The Brit Design Award 2010 in the UK.
